- You don’t really need anything over an SPF 30. You don’t get much more protection above that number. The key is reapplying every 2 hours. Don’t forget the neck and tops of your ears.
- There are a lot of sunscreens out there to choose from, I personally am not a fan of the spray or powder sunscreens, but that is just my preference.
- When it comes to choosing between chemical vs physical sunscreen, my personal and professional recommendation is a physical mineral sunscreen and here’s why- chemical sunscreens such as oxybenzone, octinoxate, etc. not only are they toxic chemicals…yuck who wants that! They absorb into your skin and absorb harmful rays from the sun. That’s how they work. My youngest son is super reactive to chemical sunscreens and breaks out into hives minutes after it’s applied, I can only use mineral sunscreen on him. They are also harmful on the environment and end up in our lakes, rivers, and oceans where they have a negative impact on coral reefs and marine life. Mineral sunscreens like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are elements that are found in nature already. They sit on the surface of your skin and actually block harmful rays.
- Finding some shade, umbrellas and hats are always good to seek out and utilize. We all love fun in the sun, but a bad sun burn is a fun killer with painful and harmful lasting results. So lather up and enjoy the summer sun safely!
