Do you wash your face at night?
I know, coming home after a long day, taking care of the house needs and family needs, all you want to do is climb into bed and get some much needed rest and washing your face often gets skipped.
Let’s talk about why washing your face is such an important step for your skin.
Your skin goes through it’s repair and regenerative process while you are sleeping. This is when the skin sheds dead skin cells and cycles them out for new ones, as well as produce collagen. (This is part of the reason we stress good sleep 7-9 hours a night). Basically, the skin repairs itself at night while you are getting your z’s. How amazing is the human body!
PROBLEM:
Wearing your makeup to bed can trap dirt and environmental pollutants on the skin which not only lead to clogged pores, but also free-radicals that break down collagen in your skin and accelerate aging. This leads to uneven skin tone, dryness, acne and yes, even wrinkles.
It’s also important to note that not all makeup is CLEAN, many contain ingredients that not only clog the pores but are not good for the human body (ie formaldehyde, dyes, fragrances, parabens, etc.) You would not want to sleep with these on your face.
So, what can you do?
Create a night time routine and look at it as your before bed “me time” and not another chore on your “to do” list. If this is a struggle right before bed, do it right when you get home before preparing dinner. Does anyone else get into their PJ’s right when they get home…or is it just me?
Invest in a good cleanser, you are worth it! One that will not strip your skin’s natural oils and lipid barrier.
There are cream cleansers, gel cleansers and even cleansing oils…my skin is loving an oil cleanser. Pick one that makes you and your skin happy!
Make sure to be extra gentle around the delicate eye area when removing mascara.
Restore your skin with the correct night time serum and/or moisturizer that best fits your skin’s needs.
Ask a professional (that would be me :) for advice on which cleansers, serums, etc will help you achieve the results you’re looking for.
Take time just for you…a few minutes each night and wash away the grim of the day. You and your skin deserve it!
