What the heck is Qi anyway?

We have all heard of “Qi” (pronounced “CHee”), but unless you have an

understanding of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) or martial arts, like Tai Chi,

Qi Gong, etc, most of us don’t have a clue what Qi is!

Qi is Energy! Qi is Universal! Qi embraces all manifestations of Energy and

Perceptual Reality!

In its most dense form Qi IS the material world. It is the Earth, our bodies, the

mountains and oceans. You can think of all Form as being “condensed” Qi.

Qi is also immaterial. Light, electricity, movement (wind), nerve impulses,

emotion and thought are also Qi!

In the body, Qi is described by its function.

Parental Qi= yuan qi, is what we inherit from our parents and ancestors. It is our

genealogy.

Pectoral Qi = zong qi, we get thru breathing and is stored in our chest, nourishing

our heart and lungs.

Nutritional Qi = ying qi, is the nutrients we get from food as well as the ability to

absorb and use those nutrients. It circulates thru the body nourishing the cells

and issues.

Defensive Qi = wei qi, also circulates thru the body and along the surface

protecting the body from external pathogens like colds and flu. It is our immune

system.

So, what does this mean?

Acupuncture affects and balances all forms of Qi in the body! It is based on the

very simple principle:

Any system that is in harmony tends toward health, well being, and sustainability.

Any system in disharmony tends toward illness, disease, suffering and ultimately

collapse.
